چکیده

Abstract: Ahierarchicalmodel predictive controller (HMPC) is proposed for flexible and sustainable building automation. The implications of a building automation system for sustainability are defined, and model predictive control is introduced as an ideal tool to cover all requirements. The HMPC is presented as a development suitable for the optimization of modern buildings, as well as retrofitting. The performance and flexibility of the HMPC is demonstrated by simulation studies of a modern office building, and the perfect interaction with future smart grids is shown.

Model Predictive Control for Mid-Size Commercial Building HVAC: Implementation, Results and Energy Savings

The paper presents field demonstration results from the implementation of a model predictive control formulation to optimize the operation of a variable volume, dual-duct, multi-zone HVAC unit serving an existing mid-size commercial building. This full-scale study is used to estimate the benefits of advanced building control technologies that can be integrated during a retrofit. The predictive ...

Design and Practical Implementation of a New Markov Model Predictive Controller for Variable Communication Packet Loss in Network Control Systems

The current paper investigates the influence of packet losses in network control systems (NCS’s) using the model predictive control (MPC) strategy. The study focuses on two main network packet losses due to sensor to controller and controller to actuator along the communication paths. A new Markov-based method is employed to recursively estimate the probability of time delay in controller to ac...

Towards Sustainable Smart Homes by a Hierarchical Hybrid Architecture of an Intelligent Agent

A smart home can be realized by the provision of services, such as building control, automation and security implemented in accordance with a user’s request. One of the important issues is how to respond quickly and appropriately to a user’s request in a “dynamic environment”. An intelligent agent infers the user’s intention and provides the intact service. This paper proposes a smart home agen...

Automatic HVAC Control with Real-time Occupancy Recognition and Simulation-guided Model Predictive Control in Low-cost Embedded System

Intelligent building automation systems can reduce the energy consumption of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) units by sensing the comfort requirements automatically and scheduling the HVAC operations dynamically. Traditional building automation systems rely on fairly inaccurate occupancy sensors and basic predictive control using oversimplified building thermal response models,...

Performance Comparison of Predictive Controllers in Optimal and Stable Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants

Any proper operation could be translated as a constrained optimization problem inside a WWTP, whose nonlinear behavior renders its control problems quite attractive for performance of multivariable optimization–based control technique algorithms, such as NMPC. The main advantage of this control technique lies in its ability to handle model nonlinearity as well as various types of constraints on...
